UA performance lab does testing for a fee

The Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville doesn't have a free metabolic testing program (its program costs $200), but it does do research studies that provide similar tests for subjects who are sometimes paid for their participation, says the lab's director, Matthew Ganio.

"It depends on the research study and exactly what they're looking at," he said. Participants in the studies also receive "any information relating to their health as part of that research study."

The lab's Fitness for Fun program is community-based and features a semester of hour-long personal training sessions three days a week. The cost is $215 for students and $235 for community members.

"We do a health screening before and after with 15 weeks of personal training with our student trainers," Ganio says.
