Christmas parade to be held Dec. 4

North Little Rock's annual Christmas parade will be Dec. 4 along Main Street, from Pershing Boulevard into downtown, ending outside the City Services Building at 120 Main St.

The parade will be followed by the city-sponsored Northern Lights Festival on the City Services Building parking lot, where the official city Christmas tree will be on display.

The parade will begin at 3 p.m. this year, a later start than in previous years, because of an event at Verizon Arena.

The theme of this year's parade is Joy to the World.

Entry forms for those wanting to participate in the parade must be returned by Monday. Civic clubs, organizations, schools, churches, businesses, school bands and military units are among those eligible to participate. Rules for entries and entry forms are available by emailing sharris@northlittlerock.org.

The Christmas parade is sponsored by the city, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the North Little Rock Sertoma Club.

Students to receive personalized books

North Little Rock Rotary Club members will distribute personalized books titled I Like Me to more than 700 pupils in North Little Rock School District kindergarten classes Thursday.

The Rotary Club program aims to promote literacy and self-esteem at an early age.

The club arranges and pays -- through its members and donations -- for the publishing of the book by Kindergartners Count Inc., a nonprofit organization in Topeka, Kan. This is the 18th year the Rotary Club has sponsored the program.

About 100 volunteers will deliver and read the books with the children.

Retirement fete set for district judge

A retirement reception is set for North Little Rock District Judge Jim Hamilton from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, 100 Main St.

Hamilton has served as an elected judge for 21 years as part of his 50-year legal career. Hamilton also was the city attorney from 1977 to 1990.

The Hamilton family requests no gifts. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
