A homeless man is accused of breaking into a downtown Little Rock bank that had closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, Little Rock police said.

Officers were called to a burglary around 2:20 p.m. Thursday at OneBanc at 300 W. Capitol Ave. At the bank, police found 26-year-old Alan Whittaker, who told a responding officer that he was in need of money, according to a police report.

Authorities said Whittaker used a rock to enter the bank's southeast door before later breaking an interior window to a conference room. No money was reported stolen from the bank.

Whittaker was taken to the 12th Street police substation for questioning and later to the Pulaski County jail on charges of commercial burglary and criminal mischief, police said.

Whittaker was still in jail Saturday night in lieu of $25,000 bond, according to the jail's inmate roster.

Store thief: 'Give me all the money'

An armed person stole cash from the registers of a Little Rock convenience store early Thursday morning, authorities said.

Officers arrived at the Big Red store at 7200 W. 12th St. shortly after 1 a.m. after getting a call about a robbery, according to a police report.

A woman at the business told the officers that a person had entered the store, run behind the counter, pointed a handgun at her and said, "Give me all the money."

The woman opened both registers and put an undisclosed amount of money into a bag, and the person fled toward Interstate 630, she told police.

Witnesses described the robber as standing 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. The robber was wearing a black hooded shirt and black sweatpants, according to a police report.

2 order woman out of car, drive it away

A Little Rock woman was carjacked Wednesday afternoon as she sat in her car in a lot near a west Little Rock restaurant, authorities said.

Investigators later used the woman's stolen cellphone to track the vehicle, touching off a high-speed chase that was ultimately called off.

The 24-year-old victim told police that she was sitting in her Toyota Scion in a parking lot near Chuy's at 16001 Chenal Parkway around 4 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and two men got out, according to a Little Rock police report.

One of the men lifted his shirt to reveal a red-and-green firearm and ordered the woman to get out of her vehicle, the report said. The woman told investigators that the weapon may have been a toy, but that was unclear.

After the man pointed the gun and pulled her from her vehicle, both assailants got into the Scion and drove off, followed by the vehicle they had arrived in -- a black Lexus SUV -- that was then occupied by a man and a woman, according to the report.

Police a short time later were able to pinpoint the location of the stolen vehicle using a tracker installed on the victim's iPhone, which had been left in the Scion, the report said.

A patrol car pulled up behind the stolen vehicle on Interstate 430 near Interstate 630, but the driver refused to pull over, according to the report. An ensuing pursuit reached speeds greater than 100 mph south on I-430 and onto Interstate 30. Authorities later ended the chase and opted instead to continue tracking the vehicle's location using the phone, according to the report.

The phone was later found on the ground at 25th and Valmar streets, and the Scion was located abandoned behind a warehouse at 4504 W. 16th St. No one was in it, and no arrests had been made, according to the report.

The two carjackers were described as black men, one of whom wore a black jacket, red shirt and khaki pants and had brown eyes and a short black afro. No description was listed for the second man.

Musical equipment stolen from church

More than $3,000 worth of musical equipment was stolen Wednesday night from a Little Rock church, authorities said.

The burglary happened sometime after 6:30 p.m. at the Tabernacle of Witness at 1868 Wolfe St., according to a Little Rock police report.

A 65-year-old man told police about 8:50 a.m. Thursday that the burglar stole a black Yamaha keyboard valued at $1,000, a gold Roland organ worth $1,200, a black Fender bass guitar valued at $700 and a blue Ibanez guitar worth $150.

Authorities said the burglar appeared to have used something to break into a southeast door at the front of the church building.

No arrests had been made at the time the report was filed.
