TURKEY CROSSOVER CLASSIC: HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

Scott takes Earle by Little Rock Hall

EARLE 59, LR HALL 42

Expectations are high for Roshala Scott and the Earle Lady Bulldogs this season. Neither showed any reason for concern Saturday afternoon.

Scott, the Lady 'Dogs' sophomore point guard, scored 23 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and handed out 3 assists in a 59-42 victory over Little Rock Hall in the Turkey Crossover Classic at Pulaski Academy.

"I put a lot of pressure on her but she's OK with that," Earle Coach Corey Garrett said. "I expect a lot out of her. She's a sophomore but she's got the basketball mind, she's got the knowledge, she's got the total package."

Scott led Earle to the Class 2A state title last March, earning MVP honors as a freshman. On Saturday, Scott scored nine points in the opening quarter as the Lady 'Dogs staked themselves to an 18-9 lead after the first eight minutes.

"I don't allow her to slack off. I don't allow her to short change herself," Garrett said. "She understands that she has to be a leader."

Scott had some help, too. Junior forward Alex Logan added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Freshman guard Elaijha Brown put in 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Earle (3-1) was 19 of 43 from the floor and outrebounded Hall 38-24. Hall (2-3) was 13 of 38 from the floor and was guilty of 26 turnovers.

"We have a lot of work to do," said Garrett, who was missing four players Saturday for various reasons. "I'm playing two ninth graders and we don't have any seniors. ... We'll be OK in the end but we have a lot of work to do before then."

Amber Brooks, who hit four three-pointers, and Alaysia Kelly each scored 12 points to lead Hall. Allexias Adams added eight points. Alexis Burns led the Lady Warriors in rebounds with 10 and steals with four.

Senior post player Keke Hunter scored 25 points in leading the Lady Trojans (3-0) over the Titans (4-3).

Hot Springs jumped out to a 26-12 lead after the first quarter, thanks to an 11-point output from junior Ariana Guinn, who finished with 17 points. The Lady Trojans expanded that lead to 44-22 by halftime.

Junior point guard Imani Honey added 16 for Hot Springs. Jacksonville guard Josie Starr hit 4 three-pointers and finished with a team-high 13 points.
