3 more Little Rock School District budget-cut public forums set

The Little Rock School District is hosting three more community forums over the next week regarding $10 million in potential budget cuts in the coming 2017-18 school year.

Tonight's forum is at Henderson Middle School, 401 Barrow Road. Another session is set for Thursday at Greater Second Baptist Church, 5615 Geyer Springs Road, and the final session is set for Dec. 6 at Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road.

Each of the forums is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Parents of current students and members of the general public are invited to the forums to respond to budget cuts that have been proposed by district leaders and to offer their own suggestions for cutting district expenses. Budget cuts are being planned to offset the scheduled end to $37.3 million a year in state desegregation aid. The state payment will end after the 2017-18 school year.

District leaders have proposed closing or re-purposing Carver Magnet, Wilson and Franklin elementary schools, Woodruff Early Childhood Education Center and Hamilton Learning Academy.

Four forums were held earlier this month at locations in the district. Suggestions and opinions generated at some of those sessions are posted on the Little Rock district's website: lrsd.org.
