NLR to repair golf cart paths

Golf cart paths at the Burns Park Golf Course will undergo rehabilitation and the city's community centers will replace athletic equipment under North Little Rock Parks and Recreation proposals approved Monday by the North Little Rock City Council.

The City Council voted 7-0 on a resolution to approve a $211,850 low bid to improve the golf cart paths at the Burns Park Golf Course and also voted 7-0 on an ordinance for the city to lease $76,744 worth of athletic equipment for city Parks Department properties, with an option to later buy the equipment. Alderman Charlie Hightcq JS was absent.

Redstone Construction Group of Little Rock submitted the low bid to rehabilitate the golf course paths from among four bidders.

The cart paths haven't been fully repaired since "probably the late 1970s or early '80s" city Parks Director Terry Hartwickcq JS said Monday.

"They're pretty rough and in pretty bad shape," Hartwick said.

New fitness equipment will be leased through Government Capital Corporation for five years at 3.889 percent interest. The payment amount will be $1,422.5 monthly, starting Jan. 1.

Hartwick said that he went to private and public fitness centers in the area to ask how they kept equipment in good repair and was told that a lease-purchase agreement is less expensive and keeps equipment updated and in good working order.

"We have to fix what we have all the time," Hartwick said. "By leasing we will get brand new equipment for five years. At the end of five years, we have a buy-out option.

"This will allow us to get up-to-date equipment and the [supplier] will do all the repairs or replacing as needed," he said.
