CHIEFS

RB Charles questionable

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs listed Jamaal Charles as questionable for Sunday night’s game at Pittsburgh, while fellow running back Charcandrick West has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Chiefs Coach Andy Reid said Friday that how well Charles comes out of the final practice of the week would dictate whether he makes his season debut. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has not played since Week 5 last season, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The only other running backs on the active roster are Spencer Ware and Knile Davis (Arkansas Razorbacks).

BILLS

Watkins placed on IR

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins will miss at least eight weeks resting an injury to his surgically repaired left foot after the team placed him on the reserved-injured list.

The Bills announced the move Friday afternoon, a few hours after Coach Rex Ryan expressed “major concern” over the receiver missing significant time.

Watkins was already ruled out from playing at New England on Sunday, and missed last weekend’s game against Arizona. He’s been sidelined since a teammate stepped on his foot during a walk-through session last week.

Buffalo’s first-round pick in the 2014 draft missed much of the offseason after having two screws inserted into his foot to repair a stress fracture in April.

The Bills filled Watkins spot by claiming receiver Justin Hunter.

TEXANS

O’Brien: Watt done

HOUSTON — Houston Texans Coach Bill O’Brien confirmed Friday that star defensive end J.J. Watt will miss the rest of the season after back surgery.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year had surgery Thursday, a day after he was placed on injured reserve.

On Friday, O’Brien answered a simple “yes” when asked if Watt would miss the rest of the season.

Watt, 27, has started 83 consecutive games since he was drafted in the first round in 2011.

The four-time Pro Bowler has been a force since entering the league not only because of his pass-rushing prowess, but also because of his uncanny ability to swat down passes. He has 45 passes defended in his six-year career. He has forced 15 fumbles and recovered 13.

JETS

WR Decker sidelined

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker has a partially torn rotator cuff that will sideline him for the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Coach Todd Bowles announced Friday that Decker will be “week to week” with the shoulder injury.

Decker did not participate in practice all week.

Decker injured the shoulder against Buffalo on Sept. 15, but it worsened last Sunday during the Jets’ loss at Kansas City. The wide receiver said after the game that the shoulder was sore, but an MRI revealed that it was worse than that.

CHARGERS

Bosa out again

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Chargers rookie Joey Bosa has been ruled out of his fourth consecutive game due to a hamstring injury.

Bosa missed all of training camp during a nasty contract dispute and then hurt himself after he signed.

Also out for Sunday’s home game against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints is cornerback Brandon Flowers, who has a concussion.

Listed as doubtful are tight end Antonio Gates with a hamstring injury and left tackle King Dunlap with migraines. Coach Mike McCoy said Dunlap’s migraines aren’t related to the concussions he’s suffered.

SEAHWKS

QB Wilson to start

RENTON, Wash. — Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will start Sunday against the New York Jets despite a knee sprain.

Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Wilson made it through the week of practices with no setbacks.

Wilson missed the first snap of his career due to injury last weekend after getting pulled down by San Francisco’s Eli Harold, spraining the MCL in Wilson’s left knee. It’s the second injury Wilson has dealt with this season after spraining his right ankle in the opener against Miami.

Tight end Jimmy Graham was listed as questionable but is expected to play. Graham sat out Thursday’s practice due to back spasms but participated fully Friday. Carroll said he sees Graham as being fully back and without restrictions after getting extensive playing time the past two weeks.

Seattle is expected to see the regular-season debut of rookie guard Germain Ifedi against the Jets. Ifedi missed the first three games due to an ankle sprain suffered just before the season opener. Ifedi went through a full week of practice and is likely to start at right guard.

Carroll gave no guarantees about newly acquired running back C.J. Spiller, only saying he “can” play against the Jets but not confirming whether he will.

PANTHERS

Oher has concussion

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers left tackle Michael Oher has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons after developing concussion-related symptoms two days before the game.

Oher practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday and the team is uncertain when the injury occurred. He didn’t feel well on Friday morning and was diagnosed with a concussion.

Panthers Coach Ron Rivera says it’s unclear who’ll take over for Oher at left tackle. The most likely option is moving right tackle Mike Remmers to the left side and starting second-year player Daryl Williams at right tackle.

Another option is starting Donald Hawkins at left tackle.

Running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) and defensive tackle Vernon Butler (ankle) also are out. Defensive end Charles Johnson (quad) is questionable but is expected to play.

NFL

Norman, others fined

NEW YORK — Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman was fined $48,620 by the NFL on Friday for his unnecessary roughness foul on New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard last week.

Norman is a repeat offender who was fined more than $26,000 last season for his tussles with Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Last Sunday, Norman hit Shepard near the head and neck area.

Also from that game, Giants center Weston Richburg was docked $12,154 for his unsportsmanlike conduct after being ejected. New York safety Andrew Adams was fined $9,115 for hitting a Redskins player who was out of bounds during a punt.

San Francisco’s Eli Harold was fined $18,231 for his horse collar penalty that resulted in Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Buffalo linebacker Jerry Hughes was docked $9,115 for ripping off the helmet of Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer after he was already sacked by Lorenzo Alexander.
