If you were a turkey would you rather be tossed from an airplane or coddled by a creature much higher up the food chain?

A stupid redneck back-woods practice. Dropping turkeys from planes indeed. Can't these people find something better to do? Maybe they could go cow tipping?

This is digusting. This event should be boycotted by all. I don't know how the plane's pilot would agree to participate in this. Drop the idiot mayor from a plane but not a defenseless turkey. Vicious, ignorant neanderthals.

Assuming the promoters are on the up-and-up, I'm just curious how this works. Where do they get these wild turkeys? How can you capture a bird that is famed for being extremely wary and hard to kill with a shotgun by a camouflaged hunter using a caller? No one would dispute that wild turkeys can fly. But these birds can be dropped from a plane for people below to catch, and can't "sail for a mile or more" (as the AG&FC spokesman attests) up Crooked Creek and escape back into the woods?

Is this entertainment? REALLY? It is cruel and barbaric. Does that make it fun? Turkeys have wings but they don't fly THAT well. Watch the excellent film "My Life as a Turkey" for a real eye opener on these intelligent and sensitive creatures. And shame on the promoters and participators in this horrific event.

Kill a deer without a tag and get caught? You're f**ked. Toss a turkey out a plane? Meh.

I'm not so sure it's that bad. I was at the festival last year and as a turkey glided to the ground I overheard him say, "Can I do it again?"

Really, I think they should drop 25=pound frozen butterballs directly on the crowd. Hundreds of them. I'd donate to that festival project.
