Arkansas men finish sixth in Alabama

Arkansas’ men’s team finished sixth at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate on Tuesday in Vestavia Hills, Ala.

The Razorbacks shot a 54-hole total of 858 (289-285-284) and finished 18 strokes behind Auburn’s winning score of 840 (284-274-282).

Arkansas’s Alvaro Ortiz (72-71-72), Luis Garza (68-74-73) and Mason Overstreet (77-67-71) all finished tied for 20th in the individual standings with a 5-over-par 215.

ASU women fourth in Missouri

Arkansas State’s women’s team finished fourth Tuesday at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview at Dalhousie Country Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Red Wolves finished with a 902 (301-291-310). Murray State won the tournament with an 871, followed by Missouri-Kansas City (884) and Wichita State (897).

Beth Ann Compton of the Red Wolves finished tied for seventh in the individual standings with a 221 (73-68-80). Emma Miller was 14th at 224 (72-78-74).

Wichita State’s Taryn Torgenson won the individual title with a 213 (67-74-72).

Arkansas women ninth in South Carolina

Arkansas’ women’s team finished ninth Tuesday at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.

The Razorbacks shot an 871 (293-288-290), finishing 33 strokes behind North Carolina’s winning score of 838.

Cara Gorfel of the Razorbacks finished tied for 27th in the individual standings with a 217 (73-72-72).

UALR women 15th in Missouri

UALR’s women’s team finished 15th Tuesday at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.

The Trojans shot a 908 (297-306-305), finishing last in the tournament. Missouri won with an 864 (282-292-290), finishing three strokes ahead of Fresno State (291-288-288).

UALR’s Hannah Ward finished tied for 35th in the individual standings with a 223 (80-73-70). Kennesaw State’s Medy Thavong won the event with a 211 (70-69-72).

Arkansas Tech men win HSU Golf Invite

Arkansas Tech’s men’s team won the Henderson State Golf Invitational at the Hot Springs Country Club on Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys finished the 54-hole tournament with a 873 (291-290-292), four strokes ahead of Southwestern Oklahoma State. Henderson State was third with 881 (301-291-289); Southern Arkansas fourth with 891 (303-292-296); Arkansas-Monticello sixth with 896 (308-298-290); and Harding seventh at 897 (298-295-304).

Austin Smith of the Golden Suns finished second in the individual standings with a 4-under-par 212 (72-70-70). He was one stroke behind Central Baptist College’s Austin Harmon (69-72-70). Kinley Lee of Arkansas-Monticello was tied for third with a 213 (74-70-69). Drew Greenwood of Henderson State was fifth at 214 (77-68-69). HSU’s Christian Woods was seventh at 216 (74-68-74). Alex Williamson of Harding was tied for eighth at 217 (72-72-73).

UALR’s Edwards finishes seventh in Utah

UALR’s Brady Edwards finished tied for seventh with a 2-over 144 at the Utah Invitational in Park City, Utah, on Tuesday.

As a team, the Trojans finished seventh with a 591 (295-296). Lamar won the team title with a 577 (289-288). Utah was second with a 580 (299-281).

ASU hires new volunteer assistant

Arkansas State hired Brian Solemsaas as a volunteer assistant coach Tuesday.

Solemsaas comes to the Red Wolves after spending the 2016 season as the pitching/bullpen coach at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill.

“Brian brings a wealth of experience and flexibility to all facets of the game,” Arkansas State Coach Tommy Raffo said.

Prior to joining John A. Logan College, Solemsaas was an assistant coach for MLB-China, where he oversaw the development of the Chinese youth players. Solemsaas played at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, where he was an all-Northern Sun Intercollegiate selection as a pitcher.

Arkansas’ Persyn wins SEC honor

Arkansas’ Cater Persyn was named SEC men’s freshman runner of the week Tuesday.

Persyn finished 18th at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville on Saturday, running the 6,000-meter course in 24 minutes, 27.0 seconds.

Arkansas women move to No. 11

Arkansas women moved up one spot to No. 11 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll Tuesday.

The ranking is the highest ever for the Razorbacks (12-1, 5-0 SEC).

Ouachita Baptist edges Harding women

Kasey Smith scored the game’s only goal as the Ouachita Baptist (4-5-1, 4-1-0 Great American Conference) women defeated Harding (7-3-0, 4-1-0) 1-0 on Tuesday at the Stevens Soccer Complex in Searcy on Tuesday.

Ouachita won despite being outshot 21-11. Harding goalkeeper Jessica Woessner had six saves.

UCA men fall in 2 OTs

The Central Arkansas (2-6-1) men lost 3-2 in double overtime at Oral Roberts (5-5-1) on Tuesday night in Tulsa.

After Wes Carson scored on a penalty kick and Krystian Sarzynski knocked in a rebound to put the Bears up 2-0, Oral Roberts tied the game on goals by Baptiste Vandeputte in the 82nd minute and Tyler Hill in the 85th minute. Junior Chavez put a shot past the outstretched fingers of Central Arkansas goalkeeper Marc Olsen for the game-winning goal four minutes into overtime.

OBU men beat Harding

The Ouachita Baptist men defeated Harding 2-0 on Tuesday at Stevens Field in Searcy.

Logan Hampton scored in the 15th minute and Joey Zerbo scored in the 52nd minute for the Tigers (5-5-0).

Harding falls to 8-3-0 on the season.

UAFS’ Tripp named libero of the week

Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Emily Tripp was named libero of the week by the Heartland Conference on .

Tripp had 50 digs in victories against Dallas Baptist and St. Edward’s, helping UAFS improve to 8-5, 4-0 in conference play.

UCA’s Bassett earns Southland honor

Central Arkansas’ Camille Bassett was named Southland Conference women’s offensive player of the week.

Bassett scored three goals in a 5-0 victory over Incarnate Word. She had two shots on goal against Abilene Christian.

Harding duo receives GAC award

Harding’s Bethany Sutherland was named Great American Conference women’s offensive player of the week and Jessica Woessner was named goalkeeper of the week.

Sutherland extended her goal-scoring streak to four games with two against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Woessner recorded her fourth shutout of the season against Southwestern Oklahoma State. She played 74 minutes against Northwestern Oklahoma State and lowered her goals against average to 0.79.

UAM wins two in Memphis

Arkansas-Monticello defeated Christian Brothers and Central Baptist College in a tri-match in Memphis on Tuesday night.

The Cotton Blossoms defeated Central Baptist College 25-12, 25-11, 22-14. Vanesa Pawlak led UAM with nine kills. Macy Mitchell had 11 digs.

UAM defeated Christian Brothers 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-12. Shay Mitchell had 19 kills. Macy Mitchell had 23 digs. Kendall Vondra had 51 assists.

Central Baptist lost 25-11, 25-14, 25-9 to Christian Brothers. Gloria Bell had seven kills. Lenee Gibson and Payton Cope had eight digs.
