Arkansas Index dips 0.71 in mixed market

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, slipped 0.71 to 334.25 Wednesday.

"U.S. stocks were mixed Wednesday after the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's latest policy meeting seemed to indicate support for a rise in rates," said John Blackwell, senior vice president and managing director of equity trading at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

Total volume for the index was 19.3 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
