Principal named at Little Rock high school

Gabriel D. Jackson is the newly named interim principal at Little Rock School District's McClellan High School, said Marvin Burton, the district's deputy superintendent.

The interim school leader replaces Henry Anderson, who resigned recently to become coordinator of testing and data analysis in the North Little Rock School District.

Jackson has been assistant principal at Townsend Elementary School in the Dollarway School District in Pine Bluff since July 2015. He was formerly assistant principal and interim principal for a year at Dollarway High School, which was preceded by a year as assistant principal at Dumas High School.

He worked five years, from 2008-13, as an eighth-grade world history teacher at Morehead Middle School in the Dollarway district.

Jackson started his teaching career at two south Arkansas charter schools: Arise Charter School in Monticello and Hope Academy Charter School in Pine Bluff.

As McClellan's interim principal, Jackson will head one of the five schools in the Little Rock district that is classified by the state as academically distressed because fewer than half of students scored at proficient levels on state math and literacy tests over a three-year period.
