Young's three goals guide Ozarks

Junior Bryce Young scored three goals Thursday to lead University of the Ozarks to a 7-0 victory over Louisiana College in Clarksville.

Young's goals all came within the first 15 minutes of the match to give him 11 on the season. Thomas Mills scored twice for Ozarks (9-2-2, 3-2-1 American Southwest Conference).

Ozarks women earn home shutout

The University of Ozarks women (5-7-1, 3-3-1 ASC) shut out Louisiana College 3-0 on Thursday in Clarksville.

Brittanie Gragg scored her fifth goal of the season in the first half, while Tiffany Robinson and Frances Adams scored in the second half for Ozarks.

Arkansas women pull off upset

Led by Natsuho Arakawa's upset victory over fifth-seeded Giulia Guidetti of Wichita State, the Arkansas women went 4-0 Thursday in the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championship at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Arakawa defeated Guidetti 6-3, 7-6 (8), while Shannon Hudson defeated Emily Behling of Nebraska-Omaha 6-1, 6-3. Mia Jurasic defated Cassie McKenzie of Saint Louis 6-2, 6-4 and Ana Oparenovic beat Northern Iowa's Jieke Stroobant 6-1, 6-1.

The Arkansas State women failed to win a match Thursday. Allison Quammen lost to Iowa's Elise Van Heuvelen 6-0, 6-1, while Tori Roberts was beaten by Oklahoma State's Katarina Stresnakova 6-2, 6-1. Shannon O'Brien lost to Minnesota's Mehvish Safdar 6-1, 6-2 and Julie Gauguery lost to Sofia Blanco of Oklahoma State 7-6 (5), 6-2.

UCA snaps losing streak

Central Arkansas (9-11, 3-5 Southland) snapped a four-match losing streak Thursday with a straight-set (25-10, 25-15, 25-15) victory over Southeastern Louisiana (3-16, 2-4).

Haley Tippett and Samantha Anderson had 10 kills each, while Elizabeth Anderson had 32 assists. Megan Nash had four blocks for UCA and Rayna Jefferis had nine digs.

UAFS sweeps Newman

Arkansas-Fort Smith won its 10th consecutive match and 22nd consecutive home match Thursday with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) sweep of Newman (Kan.) at the Stubblefield Center in Forth Smith.

Kennedi Coleman and Merrisa Murphy had 11 kills each to lead the Lady Lions (13-5, 7-0 Heartland Conference). Erin Black had a team-high 30 assists, while Emily Tripp, Bailey Katzfey and Marika Stiles had one service ace each for UAFS.

Hendrix takes down Covenant

Hendrix stepped out of conference play Thursday to earn a 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-6, 25-17) victory over Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga.

The Warriors (15-5) easily won the first set. The Lady Scots (12-11) and the Warriors were tied 12-12 in the second set before Covenant went on a 6-0 run to win its only set of the match.

MC Rogers hit a season-best .375 with 15 kills and 14 digs to lead Hendrix, while Lauren Dwyer had season highs with a .382 hitting percentage, 15 kills and 4 aces.

John Brown splits at home

Molli Pugh and Carly McKinney led John Brown to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23) victory over Southwestern Christian on Thursday and led the Golden Eagles in a 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 20-25, 12-15) loss to Wayland Baptist on Wednesday at Bill George Arena in Siloam Springs.

The victory over Southwestern Christian broke a four-match losing streak for JBU (15-10, 6-6 Sooner Athletic Conference). Pugh and McKinney both had 15 kills and 17 digs, while Beth Brankle had a match-best 20 digs and Alyssa Arnold had 30 assists in Thursday's victory over SCU (13-10, 3-9).

JBU held a 16-11 lead in the fourth set against Wayland Baptist (17-8, 10-1), but the Pioneers went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Golden Eagles pulled to within 23-20, but a JBU error followed by a WBU service ace tied the match at two sets each.

Pugh had 15 kills and 13 digs to lead JBU, while McKinney added 12 kills, 20 digs and 4 service aces. Kennedy Shelstead chipped in with 10 kills and 4 blocks.
