WRESTLING

Williams Baptist adds discipline

Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge announced Wednesday the addition of Greco-Roman wrestling as an intercollegiate sport, starting next fall.

The Greco-Roman team at Williams Baptist will function separately from the school's varsity wrestling team because the style isn't currently sanctioned in the American Midwest Conference or the NAIA.

Williams Baptist added varsity wrestling in 2014 and has had three All-Americans while finishing the 2015-2016 season ranked in the NAIA polls.

"The benefits for our existing wrestling program will be great," wrestling Coach Kerry Regner said in a news release from the school. "There is a specific niche to Greco-Roman wrestling that lends itself to success in all styles of wrestling."
