MIRACLE BEGINNING

Cocktail reception leads up to foundation's Miracle Ball

The Arkansas Children's Foundation rewarded some of the stalwart supporters of its Miracle Ball with a cocktail reception the night of Oct. 10 at the Capital Hotel.

The main event, Looking to the Future, will be Dec. 10 at Children's Hall at Arkansas Children's Hospital. With more than 500 attendees, the Miracle Ball is the largest black tie gala in central Arkansas hosted by the hospital, said Ashley Leopoulos, public relations coordinator for the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation.

Helping foot the bill for the patrons party were presenting sponsors Rebecca Rice & Associates, Bear State Bank, Jones & Son and Sharilyn and Brent Gasaway, co-chairmen of this year's Miracle Ball.

Sharilyn Gasaway, who has a background in accounting, is a member of the board of directors of Arkansas Children's Inc. and serves on the entity's financial planning, oversight and strategy committees. She is also on the executive committee and a board member of Arkansas Children's Foundation, and is a lifetime member of Arkansas Children's Auxiliary. As Alltel's executive vice president and chief financial officer, Gasaway was part of the executive team that steered the company through its merger with Verizon. Brent Gasaway has more than 20 years in the insurance business. The couple have a 16-year-old twin son and daughter.

As guests became acquainted or re-introduced themselves, Capital staff passed hors d'oeuvres including tuna tartare in sesame cones, smoked duck on sweet potato chips and chorizo-stuffed dates tempura. A cocktail buffet table held root vegetable-based soup shots, salted and cured meats with pickled grilled vegetables and house-made pimento cheese with soda crackers and celery. A carving station held Thai chicken satay, Gulf shrimp with Arkansas rice grits, house-made Andouille sausage and seared beef tenderloin with succotash.
