Friends of the Library Annual Meeting
MORRILTON —The Friends of the Conway County Library will have their annual meeting at 2 p.m. at the library, 101 W. Church St. The featured guest speaker will be Arkansas author Tayla Tate Boerner, who will discuss her new book, The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee, about a young farm girl growing up in the Arkansas Delta during the mid-1970s. Audubon Society Meeting
CONWAY — The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. in Room 110 of the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Life Sciences, in the basement’s north hall, at Hendrix College. The guest speaker, Leslie Patrick, an outreach specialist with the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, will present What Makes a Woodpecker a Woodpecker? Blues Bands Concert
MORRILTON — The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host two Arkansas blues bands as part of the college’s first Moonlight Concert Series performance, from 7-10 p.m. in the college’s Fine Arts Auditorium. Zakk & Big Papa Binns, a father/son duo from Hot Springs, will open the show. At 8:30 p.m., the Morrilton group AK3, or the Akeem Kemp Band, will take the stage. CONWAY — Tyrone Jaeger, associate professor of English and creative writing at Hendrix College in Conway, will read from his debut collection of short stories, So Many True Believers, at 7 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library. The stories give voice to the wanton, the restless and those hellbent on self-destruction. Jaeger is also the author of the cross-genre novella The Runaway Note. Artist League Workshop
FAIRFIELD BAY — The North Central Arkansas Artist League will present a workshop by Caren Garner of Hot Springs on multimedia techniques for achieving textural effects, with an emphasis on painting animals. QuickBooks Workshops
RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Tech Small Business and Technology Development Center will present two hands-on workshops for QuickBooks desktop software users at Arkansas Tech University. Harvest of Hope Food Drive Activities
MORRILTON — The Harvest of Hope Food Drive will present Fill the Truck, to collect nonperishable food items, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Kroger parking lot, 1626 E. Harding. The Kroger Culture Council will feed volunteers sell hamburgers and hot dogs to the public. The Harvest of Hope Gospel Singing will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Rialto Theater. Admission is a $5 donation or five canned goods for adults, $3 or 3 canned goods for children 12-18 and free for children under 12. Food items can be brought to the Conway County Care Center, 108 W. Great Start Lactation Club Meeting
CONWAY — Instructor Maggie Glover will teach a Pilates class that mothers can do with their babies, ages 4 weeks to crawling, during the meeting of the Conway Regional Great Start Lactation Club. Pilates are designed to strengthen abdominal muscles while developing muscle strength and increasing flexibility. The club, which provides support for mothers who are breastfeeding their babies, meets at 10 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month in the Conway Regional Women’s Center Education Classroom, Building 2. Friendship Quilt Display
CONWAY — The Faulkner County Museum is exhibiting friendship quilts at the Faulkner County Library. The museum’s textile collection contains quilts from three centuries. Each quilt comes from a small community in Faulkner County, was made during the 1930s or ’40s, and contains the names of residents of these communities. Stroke Support Group
CONWAY — A free stroke support group for patients and caregivers meets at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of every other month at Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, 2210 Robinson Ave. The next meeting will be Nov. 17. The group offers guidance on nutrition, exercise, and social and emotional support, and provides networking assistance for resources. Guest speakers present topics of interest to the group. Christmas Parade Entry Forms

Active Shooter, Self-defense Classes
CONWAY — Lt. Brad Moore, community outreach director for the University of Central Arkansas Police Department, will offer two classes at the Faulkner County Library. Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 5. This class was designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Situational Awareness/Self Defense will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 18. This class is designed to give civilians a better concept of situational awareness, with some basic self-defense moves taught. Chili Cook-off Fundraiser
MORRILTON — The Conway County Foster Care Coalition will sponsor a Chili Cook-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at Morrilton City Park, and participants are needed to represent local businesses, civic groups and churches. The event will be held at noon with guest speaker Dawn Scott of THV11. The entry fee is $25 per person/team. The winner will receive a trophy and a $100 Visa gift card. The Lightfoot Family Band Concert
CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library will present The Lightfoot Family Band — Tove Thunell and Joshua Lightfoot — in concert at 2 p.m. Nov. 6. Thunell’s interest in American folk music was inspired by musicians such as Woody Guthrie and The Carter Family, and she took up banjo playing when she was a teenager. Lightfoot was taught to play guitar by his father and later became multi-instrumental, learning the banjo, mandolin and fiddle. All library events are free and open to the public. Fried Pie Sale
PERRYVILLE — Perryville United Methodist Church will sell fried pies and smoked ribs from Nov. 9-11. The 17th annual Fried Pie Sale is sponsored and prepared by the United Methodist Women. Made-from-scratch pies will be available for $2 each in apple, apricot, peach and chocolate, as well as sugar-free apple, apricot and peach. The Holy Smokers, or United Methodist Men, will prepare the smoked ribs. A full rack of ribs, served with baked beans and slaw, will cost $25.
