I-49 lane closures to begin Monday

Work on an Interstate 49 construction project in Bentonville will require overnight lane closures for three days beginning Monday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Crews constructing overhead temporary structures on an Arkansas 72 overpass will require the inside and outside lanes on a 2-mile section south of the overpass to be alternately closed for northbound and southbound traffic from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Thursday, weather permitting.

One lane in each direction will remain open during the work, the department said. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels.

The work is part of a $27.7 million project to widen I-49 to six lanes from four on a 3.5-mile section between U.S. 62/Arkansas 102 and Arkansas 72.
