BLUE PLATE SPECIAL

Thea scholarship fund fed with chefs' creations

There's an art to plating food and local chefs served up provisions pleasing to the eye as well as the palate at Thea's Blue Plate Special. The celebration of the culinary arts, held Oct. 17 at the Capital Hotel, was a fundraiser for the Thea Foundation, which promotes and supports the creative arts in schools.

Chef Matthew Bell of South on Main served as chairman of the event, which featured 10 chefs and two mixologists. They presented a variety of tasty tidbits such as a mushroom and smoked bacon rustic tart by Marc Guizol of the Capital Hotel; spiced buttermilk cake with caramel apples by pastry chef Zara Abbassi Wilkerson; spiced rubbed pork medallions with bourbon chipotle sauce by Capi Peck of Trios.

Chefs were assisted by local artists, musicians and media personalities in plating and serving food. Musical entertainment was by Dr. Danny Fletcher and Co.

Funds raised during the evening will benefit Thea's scholarship program. The scholarships are awarded to Arkansas high school seniors based on talent in visual arts, performing arts, fashion design, film, creative writing and poetry slam.
