Ohio State dropped four spots to No. 6 in The Associated Press college football poll after its first loss of the season, and Penn State moved into the rankings for the first time since 2011 after upsetting the Buckeyes.

Alabama is No. 1 again, receiving all but one of the 61 first-place votes from the media panel Sunday. Michigan moved up to No. 2, Clemson is No. 3 and Washington No. 4.

Louisville moved up to No. 5 ahead of the Buckeyes, who blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead and lost 24-21 against Penn State on Saturday night. The Nittany Lions entered the rankings at No. 24.

Nebraska is No. 7 and Baylor is eighth. Texas A&M slipped three spots to No. 9 after losing for the first time this season.

West Virginia (6-0) moved up two spots to No. 10 in the rankings, the Mountaineers' best showing since 2012. Those Mountaineers with Geno Smith and Tavon Austin were undone by a faulty defense and ended up finishing the season unranked after peaking at No. 5 in early October. These Mountaineers have the second-best defense in the Big 12 and rank 32nd in the nation in yards per play at 5.14.

No. 15 Auburn moved up six spots after the second-most lopsided SEC victory in the history of the program. The Tigers beat Arkansas 56-3 and have won four consecutive since a 1-2 start.

No. 19 LSU moved up six spots after trouncing Mississippi.

Washington matched its best ranking since finishing No. 3 in 2000.

Ohio State might have had the biggest drop of the week, but it still ran its streak of top-10 rankings to 31, the longest current streak in the nation, dating back to November 2014.

Penn State fans unruly

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Authorities in central Pennsylvania say disorderly fans caused some damage following Penn State's upset victory over No. 2 Ohio State.

Following Saturday's 24-21 victory, police said a celebratory crowd of 5,000 to 10,000 people gathered in downtown State College, mostly college-age men and women.

Police said some in the crowd damaged street lights and signs and started small fires in the street. One vehicle was reported damaged and one person taken to a hospital after he was struck in the head with a bottle.

State police and other agencies aided city police in clearing the streets over the next several hours. Police are asking anyone who took photos or video capturing illegal activity to send the images to investigators.

Fresno State fires coach

FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State fired Coach Tim DeRuyter on Sunday after the Bulldogs dropped to 1-7 in his fifth season.

After winning the Mountain West title in each of his first two seasons at Fresno State, DeRuyter's teams struggled once star quarterback Derek Carr left for the NFL.

"Tim DeRuyter is a man of high character -- a class individual who is a leader of young men," Athletic Director Jim Bartko said. "Over the time I've been here, the football program has shown it has the ability to be a product the Red Wave can be excited about, but the results have not been to the standard we anticipated and expect."

Offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau has been named the interim head coach. The Bulldogs host Air Force on Friday night.

DeRuyter is 30-30 at Fresno State, but he went 20-6 his first two seasons. The Bulldogs won a total of nine games the next two seasons and lost Saturday 38-20 at Utah State.

"The path to greater heights of success in athletics -- and in life -- is neither smooth nor straight," school President Joseph Castro said. "Our commitment to academics and athletics boldly rising together is unwavering. Student success, inside and outside of the classroom, remains the highest priority for our university."

DeRuyter has two years left on a five-year contract that was worth $7.5 million.
