LRTD Club to induct hall of famers

Nine former Arkansas Razorbacks will be inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame at the Little Rock Touchdwon Club banquet’s meeting today at the Embassy Suites hotel in Little Rock.

Former Arkansas football players Dan Hampton, Quinn Grovey and Cliff Powell; former basketball player Lee Mayberry; former baseball player Kevin McReynolds, former golfer R.H. Sikes; former coach and administrator Bev Lewis; and former track and field athletes Joe Falcon and Frank O’Mara will be inducted into the hall of fame today.

Doors open at 11 a.m., the program starts at 11:30. Lunch is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers.

Arkansas loses at home

Arkansas won the second set to tie the match, but dropped the final two while Auburn won 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19 on Sunday in Fayetteville.

Danielle Harbin led Arkansas (3-18, 1-8) with 16 kills, while Breana Jones had 11 and Okiana Valle had 16 digs.

Hendrix clinches title

The Hendrix women’s volleyball team beat Sewanee 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 on Sunday in Conway to clinch the outright Southern Athletic Association title.

It is the third consecutive title for the Warriors (21-5, 13-1), who host the SAA Tournament that beings Nov. 4.

Lauren Petrisin had nine kills, while Sara Dyslin had eight for Hendrix.

Arkansas drops home finale

Kentucky’s Zoe Swift scored in the 67th minute to break a tie and the Wildcats earned their its first SEC victory in beating Arkansas 2-1 on Sunday in Fayetteville.

Kaitlin Miller scored on an assist from Swift in the 24th minute to put Kentucky (5-8-4, 1-6-3) up 1-0, before Arkansas’ Lindsey Mayo tied the game with a goal off a free kick in the 34th minute.

Arkansas (14-4, 7-3) has lost three of its last four.

UCA clinches Southland title

Allie Coleman scored two goals, Ashley Smith scored another and the Central Arkansas women’s soccer team beat Nicholls State 3-0 on Sunday to clinch the regular-season Southland Conference title in Conway.

UCA (14-3-1, 9-0-1 Southland Conference) didn’t allow a shot on goal for the first time in four seasons while recording its 10th shutout of the season.

UALR ties program record for victories

Doro Greulich scored in the 36th minute, Mikayla Uyokpeyi added another in the 50th minute and UALR beat Troy 2-0 on Sunday in Little Rock, to earn its 11th victory this season to tie a program record.

The victory also clinched for the Trojans (11-6-1, 6-3-1 Sun Belt) the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt tournament, the highest ever for the program. They’ll open play in the tournament Nov. 4 in Foley, Ala.

ASU falls in regular-season finale

Sarah Price’s goal 53 seconds into overtime gave Georgia Southern a 2-1 victory over Arkansas State on Sunday in Jonesboro.

Price also scored in the 54th minute for the Eagles (6-10-1, 3-7). Julie Chambers scored the only goal for ASU (6-7-3, 4-5-1), in the 41st minute.

ASU earned the No. 7 seed in the Sun Belt tournament, which begins with a 10 a.m. game Nov. 2 against Coastal Carolina.
