State index up 1.64 to end day at 325.70

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, climbed 1.64 to 325.70 Wednesday.

"U.S. stocks were mixed on Wednesday after a busy round of earnings and some mixed economic data," said John Blackwell, senior vice president and managing director of equity trading at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
