Auction house, bank settle archivist suits

First Arkansas Bank & Trust of Jacksonville and the receiver in cases involving former photo archivist John Rogers reached a settlement Wednesday with a New Jersey auction house concerning photographs in the firm's possession.

Goldin Auctions of New Jersey, Ken Goldin and Clearwater Sports Investments have approximately 1,300 photographs and prints from Look magazine that they bought from Rogers. First Arkansas sued Rogers, of North Little Rock, for more than $15 million, the amount the bank loaned him in 2011 to fund his purchases of newspaper photo archives throughout the country and collections of other photos.

The photos have an estimated value of less than $20,000, the Goldin parties said. The low value of the photos led First Arkansas and receiver Michael McAfee to agree that First Arkansas would dismiss its claims against the Goldin parties. Goldin also agreed to drop the claims it had against the bank.
