Governor honored by economics group

ROGERS -- Gov. Asa Hutchinson received an Excellence in Free Enterprise Award on Thursday in front of an audience of more than 500 people gathered for the annual luncheon of Economics Arkansas.

The 54-year-0ld nonprofit group promotes greater economic and personal financial literacy of Arkansas grade-school students and encourages teachers in schools to teach those lessons.

The governor received the award because of his support for free enterprise, including his trips abroad to encourage trade, event organizers said.

The luncheon ceremony was held at the John Q. Hammons Center. Keynote speaker for the event was former U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas.
