Realty on the market

I just finished reading the book Killing the Rising Sun, about the fight in the Pacific during World War II. If anyone believes that Hillary Clinton has the willpower or the guts to do the same thing that Presidents Roosevelt and Truman did to end and win World War II, I have some oceanfront property here in Arkansas I'd love to sell you!

State's valuable gem

Arkansas is known for its diamonds, but one of its most valuable gems is the Arkansas Educational TV Network (AETN), which offers a wonderful array of high quality shows from children's educational programs, Ken Burns' documentaries, American Experience, arts and sciences programming to such classics as Downton Abbey.

One of my favorite shows is the locally produced Agri Arkansas, which features fascinating interviews with and stories about Arkansans and spotlights our agricultural industries that operate in the global market and bring dollars into Arkansas.

How fortunate we are to have this gem. Much credit must be given to the viewers who donate funds and to the dedication of AETN's management and staff and their efforts to make every dollar count.

Happy 50th birthday, AETN! Long may you live.

A scary future indeed

Voters, watch Metropolis, a 1927 silent film, to see where The Donald would take us. Don't go there!

Preserve our republic

We are faced with having to vote for one of two undesirable candidates for president. It is very troubling that we hear more about their bad points than their attributes. There is no excuse for their reprehensible indiscretions.

I believe Hillary Clinton will legislate by executive order and sidestep our Constitution as Barack Obama has done. She will appoint liberal Supreme Court justices that will legislate through the courts.

I believe Donald Trump is the only hope we have of preventing the dismantling of our Constitution and preserving the integrity of the Supreme Court.

Our Constitution and Supreme Court are the pillars of our republic. Hold your nose and vote for Donald! The odor is not so bad when you think about what will happen to these great institutions.

What he's thinking of

It appears Donald Trump is always thinking about his next venture into making money, not being president. I believe he's just trying to get on the good side of his idol, Vladimir Putin, so he can cut a deal with him to build casinos in the resort area of Crimea with Russia financing. I believe Putin has the same idea. That's why he annexed Crimea. Putin is probably just part of the Russian mafia.

I may be way out in left field, but I believe this is the way Trump thinks. All he thinks about is himself and making money.

I know Hillary's no saint, but I believe she loves her country more than herself.

Truly American event

In today's fast-paced, double-talking, fine-print and deviously deceptive society where even the lesser of two evils is a totally unacceptable choice, there is light at the end of the tunnel, if only temporarily.

Probably the most historic World Series in our lifetime, and maybe of all time, is underway. It will most likely be the highest-grossing sporting event ever and will reportedly draw a television audience bigger than any other sporting event, including the Super Bowl.

What can be more American than a fan base, a city, a state, and a country that stands behind a losing sports franchise for 108 years because loyalty and sportsmanship are more important than winning? The "lovable losers," as their fans have been called, have stood behind their beloved Cubs during the good years and the bad. The people of Chicago weren't even scared off by the curse of the goat.

The World Series is one of the last bastions of Americana. It would be almost un-American to not watch the fall classic, especially this year, and root for the Cubs, unless you are from Cleveland. However, deep down, I bet there will be a part of every Cleveland fan who would like to see the Cubs break the curse.

Make sure you tune in early enough to see the pre-game ceremonies and introductions, especially tonight, when the series moves to Chicago.

Questionable activity

Just a question: In the last 30 years, is there any scandal, unethical, crooked, payoff, fraudulent, immoral or criminal activity that did not involve Hillary Clinton?

A soulless democracy

With all the homogenized comedians and dim-witted pop singers lecturing us about which of our corrupt candidates it is our duty to vote for, I was glad to see a true revolutionary like Bob Dylan win the Nobel Prize.

While Dylan never considered himself a political person or even an activist for that matter, he was able to relate the pain and injustice so many people were feeling at that time and say it in a way that still resonates today.

We need more artists today who can express this rage and demoralization that is infecting this country, and fewer performers who are only interested in hosting the next American Music Awards or getting their next lame Netflix stand-up special on the air.
