Fordyce too much for Junction City

JUNCTION CITY -- The Fordyce Redbugs took advantage of three Junction City turnovers to win 26-13 on Friday.

The Redbugs (8-1, 6-0 6-3A) will have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with the victory.

After back-and-forth defensive stands to begin the game, the Dragons scored first on a 44-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Davis from Joe Lowe with 5:57 left in the first quarter.

Fordyce answered on a 3-yard touchdown run by T'Juan Thomas with 1:08 left in the first quarter. The Redbugs' two-point conversion was no good, and the Dragons led 7-6.

It took six seconds at the start of the second quarter for the Dragons (6-3, 5-1) to score on Lowe's 11-yard quarterback keeper. The extra point was no good, giving Junction City a 13-6 lead at the 11:54 mark.

The Redbugs would answer with 4:06 left in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by Dearius Sledge. The two-point conversion was no good, and the Dragons still led 13-12.

The Dragons punted on their next possession, giving Fordyce the ball before the half. The Redbugs marched down the field looking to score, but Junction City's Tez Brown intercepted a pass in the end zone with nine seconds left in the half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter.

Fordyce took the lead at the 10:39 mark of the fourth quarter when Sledge hauled in a 44-yard pass from quarterback Ketric Sledge for a 20-13 lead after the two-point conversion.

The Redbugs sealed the victory on Ketric Sledge's 1-yard keeper.
