I-49 lanes to close for work this week

Bridge construction will require overnight lane closures on Interstate 49 in Johnson and Springdale for two nights beginning Tuesday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Crews treating the bridge deck surfaces at the Clear Creek bridges, the Johnson Mill Boulevard overpass and the U.S. 412/Sunset Avenue overpass will require the outside lanes to be alternately closed from Johnson Mill north to U.S. 412 on Tuesday and Wednesday, weather permitting.

The northbound lane closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., while the southbound lane closures will last from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., the department said. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels.

The work is part of a $28.3 million project to widen 4.5 miles of I-49 to six lanes between U.S. 71B in Johnson and U.S. 412 in Springdale. The project is anticipated to be complete later this year.
