Wedding dresses explored in talk

A presentation on wedding dresses is planned for Wednesday at the Terry Library branch of the Central Arkansas Library System.

Yslan Hicks, interim chairman of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will present photos in h̶i̶s̶ her* 6:30 p.m. presentation called Memorable Wedding Dresses: From the Silly to the Sublime.

H̶e̶ She* will primarily feature images from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's current exhibit, "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology."

That exhibit focuses on the distinction of clothing made by hand (manus) and machine (machina), according to the museum's website.

"It explores this ongoing dichotomy, in which hand and machine are presented as discordant tools in the creative process, and questions the relationship and distinction between haute couture and avant-garde ready to wear," the website says.

Hicks' presentation will be at the Terry Library branch at 2015 Napa Valley Drive. More information is available by calling the library at (501) 228-0129.
