On July 28 at 1 a.m., El Dorado police responded to an emergency call concerning a shooting and robbery at a residence at 629 Champagnolle Road.

Emergency medical workers with the El Dorado Fire Department also arrived at Apartment H2 to provide medical attention to two men who had been shot.

Both men were taken by ambulance to the Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Anthony Jackson, 31, who lived at the residence, was treated for a gunshot wound in the lower left leg. Jackson was later released from the hospital.

The second man, Joshua Calhoun, 27, was severely injured and moved to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.

Calhoun, who had been shot once on the left side of the head, died from his injuries July 29.

El Dorado police spokesman Capt. Kevin Holt and investigator Sgt. Scott Harwell said many hours have been spent interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to be sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for processing.

But investigators have yet to find a motive for the shooting, identify any suspects or make any arrests in the case, police said last week.

Authorities said all leads have been exhausted in the ongoing investigation, and they are appealing to the public for help.

Information provided by Jackson, who is still recovering from his injury, has not produced any solid leads, the detective said.

Investigators are not revealing the few facts they have been able to ascertain.

"We don't want to let somebody know too much. We hope to start getting leads that we can follow up on," Harwell said.

Harwell did share one new detail, saying officers learned there was a third man inside the residence when the shooting occurred.

"He was unharmed. He ran out of fear. Two days later, he came in and talked to us and let us know he was there," Harwell said.

He declined to release the man's name and said the man's statements did not generate any new leads in the case.

Police have said there were a few people at the scene when officers arrived. Holt said those witnesses and neighbors have been interviewed, along with relatives, friends and acquaintances of the shooting victims.

Holt said the early morning time of the shooting and the likely chaotic scene that followed could make it difficult for anyone who may have seen something to recall what happened. However, Holt said police are convinced that "someone in the community knows something."

"It's not like this was a random shooting, and we're hoping that someone has gone out into the community and has been telling somebody something, and we hope they would get more involved in telling us what they heard," Holt said.

He said information leading to an arrest in the case could be eligible for a Crime Stoppers reward of up to $1,000, stressing that such information will be kept confidential.

Harwell strongly urged anyone with knowledge about the shooting to call him or Lt. Cathy Phillips at (870) 881-4810 or Crime Stoppers at (870) 863-4636.
