Driver purposely hit pedestrian in Arkansas school parking lot, police say

A driver purposely hit a pedestrian with his vehicle in the parking lot of a northeast Arkansas high school, according to Jonesboro police.

That pedestrian, a 27-year-old Jonesboro woman, and others in a group — four children and another woman — noticed a vehicle approaching them around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jonesboro High School, 310 Hurricane Drive, a report states.

The children's ages range from 8 to 16, according to police.

The vehicle's driver began to rev the 2008 Ford Edge's engine and travel toward the pedestrians, said a 38-year-old woman in the group who recorded part of the encounter on video.

The SUV's front bumper then hit the 27-year-old woman, causing her to travel underneath the vehicle and suffer abrasions to her left hand and injuries to her knees, according to the report.

At that point, the driver backed up and left the scene.

A portion of the video footage showed a woman repeatedly yelling, "You hit her," at a driver and female passenger, police said.

In the report, authorities did not list a possible motive for the driver to strike the woman.
