Almost 10 years after it opened, the Big Dam Bridge was rededicated with a ribbon cutting by Pulaski County leaders.

Before Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde cut the ribbon, he addressed the crowd of about 50 people, praising the work of the county and city leaders who helped plan and build the bridge that's "inclusive of everyone in the county."

Other speakers, including Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola, also thanked those who helped make the bridge a reality and lauded its place as an attraction in central Arkansas.

The bridge, which spans 4,226 feet from Little Rock to North Little Rock across the Arkansas River, opened Sept. 30, 2006. It's the longest bridge in the world designed for only bike and pedestrian traffic.

According to a news release, 8.9 million people have crossed the bridge since it opened. It took eight years to plan and cost $12.5 million.
