North Little Rock police are now investigating an August liquor-store shooting as a homicide after one of the victims died.

In a news release, police said two employees of Best Shot Liquor — located at 5312 MacArthur Drive — were shot Aug. 26 before 4:40 p.m. Both Dilipkumar Patel, 65, and Niranjana Modi, 64, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.

The release said Patel died from his injuries, so detectives are now investigating the shooting as a homicide.

Sgt. Brian Dedrick, a spokesman for North Little Rock police, said Patel died earlier this week and detectives are currently looking into several leads. There have been no arrests.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported that police described the shooter as a black woman.

Dedrick told the newspaper on the night of the shooting that Patel was in critical condition while Modi was in stable condition. Trace Poole, who was working at the same strip mall as the liquor store that night, said she saw Patel on the floor with blood on his chest.

"He didn't look good, he didn't look good at all," Poole told the newspaper.

Anyone with any information on the shooting is asked to contact North Little Rock police at (501) 758-1234.
