It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 1, 1978.

The first 200 people to request posters will get them; allow four to six weeks for delivery. Write to AHPP Posters, AHPP, 1100 North St., Little Rock, Ark. 72201; call (501) 324-9880; or email elizabeth.tadros@arkansas.gov.

Cartoon contest

Sept. 25 is the online entry deadline for would-be political cartoonists to enter the South Arkansas Arts Center's 2016 Editorial Cartoon Contest.

Draw an editorial or political cartoon about any current event or political campaign issue of local or national interest. "Judging will be based on originality, clear expression of a point of view and visual presentation using one or more of the tools of a political cartoonist, such as humor, irony, caricature, symbolism, metaphor, sarcasm and exaggeration," according to a news release.

The contest is open to color or black-and-white, hand-drawn or digitally created cartoons by single artists or collaborative groups. There are two divisions: Adults and Students (grade 9-12). Entries must be original and unpublished. Artists may submit any number of entries; there is a $5 entry fee for each. Delivery deadline for physical cartoons to the center, 110 E. Fifth Street, El Dorado, is Sept. 23; submit entries online via saac-arts.org. Sponsors are William P. Cook and Associates and the El Dorado News-Times.

Judge Jay Barth, a faculty member at Hendrix College in Conway, will award cash prizes for the first three places in each division and for Best of Show. News-Times General Manager Ronnie Bell will select one cartoon for the Editor's Choice Award, which will also carry a cash award, and select his favorites for publication in the paper. The cartoons will be on display in the center's Lobby Gallery Oct. 3-27, with a 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 awards reception.
