Poor service nets small tip, Twitter rant

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams was criticized by a Maryland waitress for his tip on his bill. Williams defended the tip on social media and on Monday, rushed for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Steelers’ 38-16 victory over the Washington Redskins.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams is defending his 75-cent tip to a server at a Maryland pizzeria.

WUSA-TV reported that Williams ate dinner Sunday night at Ledo Restaurant in College Park and left the small tip on his $128.26 bill.

His server took to Facebook to complain and restaurant workers blasted Williams on social media. But Williams, who was in town ahead of Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins, defended his actions on Twitter, saying his group received lousy service. He said he waited for an hour and a half for his food and that his order was wrong.

Williams, who is from Wynne and played for the University of Memphis, said he tried to leave exact change, but couldn't.

Add DeAngelo

While DeAngelo Williams may not be the greatest tipper, he has gained plenty of respect from the Cincinnati Bengals, who will attempt to stop the running back this weekend.

The Steelers had one of the best rushing games against the Bengals last season during their 18-16 playoff victory at Paul Brown Stadium, piling up 167 yards.

Their rematch in Pittsburgh on Sunday will come down partly to how well Cincinnati's defense handles Williams.

"It's the same old DeAngelo Williams," said linebacker Karlos Dansby, who joined the Bengals this year as a free agent from Cleveland.

"Ain't nothing changed. The man is consistent. He's been explosive ever since he's been in the league. I've had an opportunity to play against him a lot of times and I haven't seen anything change."

The dog pound

The Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night set a Guinness World Record for most dogs attending a sporting event, as 1,222 dogs were present for the team's annual Bark at the Park event.

The record was reviewed and confirmed by a Guinness adjudicator, and the team received a plaque to commemorate the achievement. The White Sox beat the Indians, 8-1.

"We received a tremendous turnout for our four-legged friends tonight," senior vice president of sales and marketing Brooks Boyer said. "We are thrilled that the White Sox dog-friendly event has become a storied piece of our tradition, especially as we add a milestone with tonight's 'most dogs attending a sporting event' title through Guinness World Records."

In 1996, the White Sox were the first big league team to create a dog-friendly event.

Welcome back

Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times, after the relocated Rams lost their opener 28-0 to the 49ers: "We waited 22 years for ... this? The Rams formally returned to Los Angeles on Monday night by stumbling through the door and tracking mud on the floor before flopping aimlessly on the couch."

And finally ...

From Brad Dickson of The Omaha World-Herald:

"Tim Tebow homered in his workout for MLB scouts. It's been so long since Tebow played baseball, during his home run trot he stiff-armed the first base coach."
