1 dead, 8 hurt in 3-car pileup

A three-vehicle crash in Logan County left one person dead and eight others injured Wednesday, according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.

A 2000 Mercury was hit in the rear as it slowed for a stalled 2001 Chevrolet on the Arkansas 109 River Bridge at around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The impact sent the Mercury into the southbound lane, where it hit the railing of the bridge, police said.

A 2014 Ford, which hit the Mercury, then crashed into the stalled Chevrolet, police said.

Robin Freeman, 46, of Clarksville was driving the Ford and died in the crash, according to police.

Four people riding in the Ford were injured: Charcina Stepp, 26, of Clarksville; Shannon Koch, 19, of Scranton; and two Clarksville children, a boy and a girl, who were not identified in the report.

State police do not identify minors involved in fatal traffic crashes.

The driver of the stalled Chevrolet, Ivonnr Espinoza, 38, of Clarksville, was injured in the crash along with her passengers, Gorgina Olguin, 47, and Rita Olguin, 44, both of Clarksville, according to the report.
