HARVEST NIGHT

$42K fetched at fundraiser to help Arkansas Foodbank

Arkansas Foodbank and Arkansas Rice Depot, which recently merged under the Foodbank moniker to fight hunger in Arkansas, premiered its first event as a united organization Sept. 10. Harvest Night, a family-friendly event, was held at the Arkansas Foodbank Warehouse.

Inside the warehouse, guests were treated to a buffet of fried catfish, fried chicken, smoked sausage and a variety of sides. Stone's Throw Brewery provided beverages for adults and there was a big screen TV so attendees could watch the UA Razorbacks beat the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs.

However, the real action was outside, where there were bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals and music by the John Miller Duo. Guests were treated to a special visit by characters from the movie Star Wars and treats from Honey Pies and Loblolly Creamery. Loblolly served up orange-colored Pumpkin Five Spice ice cream. Orange is the signature color of September's Hunger Action Month.

Ashley Wimberly and Maggie Young served as event chairmen. Money raised, about $42,000, will help the food bank continue to support more than 350 agencies in Arkansas that provide food in their communities.
