AN ARKANSAS FAIRY TALE

'Happy ever after' is aim of cerebral palsy event

The hope of United Cerebral Palsy of Arkansas is for people with disabilities to live a life without limits. About 220 guests at the Once Upon A Time, An Arkansas Fairy Tale fundraiser helped the organization take a few steps toward realizing that goal at the group's fifth annual event, held Sept. 8 at the Statehouse Convention Center.

The organization's community development director, Kristin Stuart, said the group expected to raise about $35,000.

The evening included musical entertainment by the Rodney Block Collective, a wine pull and live and silent auctions. One of the live auction items was a dinner party for 10 at the Arkansas Arts Center donated by event chairman Al Hodge and his wife, Diane. There were more than 100 silent auction items including parties, dinners, jewelry, artwork and spa services. A special silent auction item was a one-of-a-kind dollhouse built by a United Cerebral Palsy client.

Guests also enjoyed a buffet of baron of beef, tomato and mozzarella focaccia skewers, Asian chicken salad endive cups, tuna carpaccio on cucumber, mini lump crab cakes, steamed pot stickers, Kobe beef skewers and balsamic mascarpone filled strawberries.

North Little Rock Police Officer Tommy Norman, known for his work in community policing, was the guest speaker. Kevin Clay served as the master of ceremonies.

United Cerebral Palsy of Arkansas serves children and adults with disabilities including early intervention for infants and toddlers and supported living and employment services for adults.
