MacArthur movie

MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen the documentary Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The film deals with the traumas that veterans face, as witnessed by the hotline’s trained responders. Speakers from the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System will discuss veterans’ issues after the film. Admission, popcorn and beverages are free. Lunch lecture

University of Arkansas graduate student Misti Nicole Harper, whose doctoral dissertation project is titled “And They Entered as Ladies: When Race, Class and Black Femininity Clashed at Central High School,” explores the early life and intersectional problems of race, sex and class as they applied to Daisy Gatson Bates in the years before the 1957 Little Rock Central High desegregation crisis in a talk titled “Portrait of an (Invented) Lady: Daisy Gatson Bates and the Challenge of Respectability,” noon Thursday, the September Brown Bag Lunch Lecture at the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Sister Act tryouts

Arkansas Repertory Theatre will hold local auditions, by appointment, for the musical Sister Act (music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner) on the afternoon of Oct. 8 at the Rep, Sixth and Main streets, Little Rock. Provide a headshot and resume; prepare 32 bars of music either from or in the style of the show and supply sheet music for the accompanist. Auditioners may be asked to attend a dance callback later in the day and/ or read from the script following the singing auditions, from “sides” available at the website. therep.org/work-with-us/auditionsides.aspx. Rehearsals begin Jan. 3; production dates are Jan. 24-Feb. 26. All roles are paid.
