A Hot Springs man now faces a charge of negligent homicide after the release of toxicology test results in a single-vehicle crash in April that killed a passenger, court records show.

The crash occurred around 12:05 a.m. April 10 when Austin Tilmon Meeks, 21, lost control of his westbound 2008 Chevrolet pickup on Arkansas 192 north of Mountain Pine, causing the vehicle to leave the road and strike a tree, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

Meeks and a passenger in the pickup, 22-year-old Dayton K. Garner of Hot Springs, were ejected in the crash.

Garner was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 a.m. that day by Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley, state police said.

The Sentinel-Record in Hot Springs reported that blood samples taken from Meeks at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs and sent to the state Crime Laboratory showed a blood alcohol content of 0.11.

Meeks was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Garland County jail, where he was later released on $2,500 bond, according to the newspaper.
