21-year-old student dies after exercising at campus gym

BALTIMORE — Officials in Maryland say a student has died suddenly after exercising at a campus gymnasium.

Media outlets quote Morgan State University spokesman Clint Coleman as saying 21-year-old Dmitri Clemons of Silver Spring was working out at a campus gymnasium Wednesday when he collapsed. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will determine the cause of Clemons' death.

His death comes days after the off-campus stabbing death of another university student, sophomore Marcus Edwards.

University Vice President of Student Affairs Kevin Banks said in a letter to the campus community that Clemons was a senior civil engineering major and vice president of the campus American Society of Civil Engineering. He was expected to graduate in December.
