DALLAS -- Razorback Coach Bret Bielema and his staff never backed off Arkansas native and highly recruited cornerback Chevin Calloway after he committed to Iowa on July 11.

Because of that no-quit attitude, Calloway plans to make an official visit to Fayetteville on Oct. 8 for the game against No. 1 Alabama.

"We're real tight right now," Calloway said of the Arkansas staff. "Coach B hits me up a lot."

Calloway, 5-11, 185, 4.46 seconds in the 40-yard dash of Dallas Bishop Dunne, has more than 30 scholarship offers from Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU, UCLA and others. ESPN rates him the No. 8 cornerback and the Nation's No. 75 overall prospect.

Born in Pine Bluff, Calloway moved to Texas when he was 3, but many family members still live in the state and are big Razorbacks fans.

Defensive coordinator Robb Smith, defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads and linebackers coach Vernon Hargreaves also are making contact.

"They all hit me up," Calloway said. "I can tell the connection is real tight. I know I'm going to get down there for the Alabama and LSU game. So I'm pretty excited about that."

He said he'll officially visit during Alabama weekend while LSU would be an unofficial visit. Calloway listed other official visits.

"I think I'm going to try and get down to Ole Miss," he said. "I'll get down to Texas. I know for sure Iowa. I think I'll try and get to Nebraska as well."

Calloway said nothing will be certain until signing day in February. Iowa is strong, he said, but Arkansas is still in the picture.

Calloway said the environment that the coaches have created has him wanting to go back to Fayetteville.

"We talk about the alumni and the family there," Calloway said. "Just the whole environment in general with what the coaches have going on with the defensive scheme they're running. That's what draws a lot of my interest. I see how they play and it's similar to how we play."

He was impressed with Arkansas' 41-38 double-overtime victory over TCU.

"I liked how they were able to play up with the uptempo-type offense, a different type of offense they're not used to playing in the SEC," Calloway said. "Just the way they were able to adjust to that and even to take it to overtime and to keep playing the way they did,"

Calloway made sure not to miss an episode of the Being Bret Bielema show.

"I actually recorded the whole series of it," Calloway said. "I always think it's cool to see somebody I've been able to talk to. Somebody I have a good connection with and seeing him on TV."

The show reflects well on Bielema, Calloway said.

"It shows his personality and it shows he is not just a coach, but a person," he said.

Calloway made his first trip to Fayetteville for the spring game with three uncles and rabid Hog fans Edmond, Anthony and Theotis Williams. He made a return trip in June with his mother, stepfather and younger sister.

His family is high on Arkansas, but they're also giving him space.

"The good thing is I know they want the best for me, but they're always going to be a little bias towards Arkansas," Calloway said. "They're always coming with 'You see what Arkansas did with TCU. They were able to hang with the tempo. They say Coach Rhoads is going to do something, he's going to do something.' They still stay in my ear a little bit."
