If the Fort Smith Little Theatre production "Money Matters" sounds like a farce, director Carole Rogers would agree resoundingly.

"It has no socially redeeming values, no life lessons, just silly fun," she says.

The comedy by Michael and Susan Parker is the fourth by those playwrights to be helmed by Rogers. It is a prequel to "Sex Please We're Sixty," which was staged by FSLT five years ago.

"A few of our older actors are getting a chance to be on stage," Rogers says, then corrects herself. "Our veteran actors -- because I'm in that older category myself!"

Rogers was "having a terrible case of empty nest syndrome" when a friend invited her to audition at FSLT in 1992. "My husband literally pushed me out the door," she says. The friend gave her a part, "and I got the bug. I've been involved ever since."

The community theater company is "very fortunate," adds Rogers, who is president of the FSLT Board. "This is our 69th season. We have many, many young people who are involved, directing, acting and so forth. We're very blessed in that our young people just kind of move into the little theater from the Young Actors Guild and the theater department at UAFS."

Having just survived preparations for "Money Matters," Rogers says, "some of us older ones would like to kind of back off a little! We're getting a little long in the tooth."
