2 dead, 2 hurt in Arkansas crash

Two passengers died and two drivers were hurt after a two-car crash in Hempstead County on Saturday morning.

Latonya Cheatham, 37, was driving a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta east on Arkansas 73 with Pearlean Cheatham, 98, Arkansas State Police said in a crash report. In a 2008 Nissan Altima, Latasha Trotter, 40, was driving with Jewellene Trotter, 75, west on the highway.

Police said both cars entered the same curve near County Road 187 at 7:40 a.m. The Jetta crossed into the westbound lane and hit the Altima.

Pearlene Cheatham and Jewellene Trotter died in the wreck, police said. Latonya Cheatham was taken to UAMS for her injuries while Latasha Trotter was sent to St. Michael's hospital in Texarkana.

State police said weather conditions were clear and dry. The deaths were the 383rd and 384th of the year on Arkansas roads.
