I-49 lanes to close to mark pavement

Work on Interstate 49 in Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closures for two nights beginning today, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

Placing road markings on the Clear Creek bridges and the overpasses at Johnson Mill Boulevard in Johnson and U.S. 412/Sunset Avenue in Springdale will require the outside lanes to be alternately closed from just south of Johnson Mill to U.S. 412 both nights, weather permitting.

The northbound lane closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and the southbound lane closures will last from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., the department said. Signs and barrels will control traffic.

The work is part of a $28.3 million project to widen 4.5 miles of I-49 to six lanes from four between U.S. 71B and U.S. 412. The project is expected to be completed later this year, the department said.
