Springdale's Williams killed overnight in car crash

Springdale High School football star Kyler Williams died overnight in a car crash, according to a Springdale Public Schools official.

Rick Schaeffer, a spokesman for the district, said Williams, a wide receiver, died in a single-vehicle wreck somewhere between Springdale and Huntsville.

"The Red Dog Family is mourning the loss of one our students," the school said on its Facebook page. "However this isn't just a loss for our school but for the whole Springdale community."

The football team will hold a team meeting at 3 p.m. today. The Walker Indoor Fieldhouse will be open at 5 p.m. for the entire community to mourn this loss, the school said.

The school is asking that memorials be placed at the West ticket booth to show support for Williams and his family.

Williams, a senior, recored 10 catches for 265 yards and three touchdowns Friday during Springdale's victory over Rogers-Heritage.

"Kyler is Kyler," Springdale Coach Zak Clark told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. "It didn't surprise me. We're trying to move him around, but he's the best around for a reason."
