3:55 P.M. UPDATE:

The Pulaski County sheriff's office identified the victim in Monday morning's officer-involved fatal shooting as 32-year-old Leeland White of Saline County.

In a news release, Capt. Carl Minden, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said White was holding a 20-gauge shotgun when he was shot. The unnamed deputy shot him twice in the upper torso.

The deputy has 29 years of law enforcement experience and has been placed on paid administrative leave. The deputy's name will be released as soon as possible, Minden added in the release.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a man with the same name and birthday as White threatened to kill his ex-wife over the phone in April. His ex-wife told authorities she had heard that White was “driving around with guns and ammunition in his truck,” the affidavit said.

White was arrested April 27, the affidavit said, and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening.

The affidavit listed White’s address in the 1400 block of West Colonel Glenn Road, which is roughly 3.5 miles down the road from where he was shot and killed Monday morning.

10 A.M. UPDATE:

A Pulaski County sheriff's deputy shot and killed an armed man on the front porch of a home outside Little Rock early Monday morning, an official said.

Capt. Carl Minden, a spokesman for the Pulaski County sheriff's office, said the shooting happened around 6 a.m. at the house about 7 miles west of Little Rock.

The deputy, who was already in the area on a different call, pulled into a driveway in the 22400 block of Colonel Glenn Road and turned his car's spotlight on the man, who was on the front porch of the house, Minden said.

The deputy requested that the man put his gun down, Minden said, adding the ensuing conversation led to the deputy shooting the man. What was said between the deputy and the man is part of the ongoing investigations, Minden said. The man who died didn't fire his gun.

One of the people living in the house witnessed the shooting. Minden said that at the time of the shooting, the victim was unknown to the people living there.

Blood on the house's front steps was still visible mid-Monday morning.

Minden said his office received "a couple" 911 calls about an armed man in the area, which was unusual.

"This doesn't happen out here," Minden said. "This is a very peaceful area."

The deputy will be placed on administrative leave, per the office's protocol, Minden said. The office is conducting both criminal and internal investigations.

Minden said that to his knowledge, this shooting was the first time a deputy had fatally shot someone since he began at the sheriff's office in 1998.

8:27 A.M. UPDATE:

A man who police say was armed with a gun was fatally shot by a Pulaski County sheriff's deputy early Monday morning.

It happened shortly after 6 a.m. outside a home in the 22400 block of Colonel Glenn Road, Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said.

Minden said a deputy responded to a 911 call from a homeowner about a man with a gun on her porch. The deputy engaged the man in conversation, Minden said, adding he would not put the gun down and was later shot.

The man, whose identity is known but not being released, died at the scene. The deputy, whose name also was not released, was not injured.

Minden said an investigation into the shooting is continuing.

The block where the shooting happened is west of Beauchamp Road, or about 7 miles west of where Little Rock city limits end on Colonel Glenn Road.
