Wolves, Bears want to play another game

Arkansas State and Central Arkansas met for the fourth time in almost 70 years on Saturday night, but the two schools are working on another meeting already.

ASU Athletic Director Terry Mohajir and UCA Athletic Director Brad Teague each said Monday that they want to be on one another’s schedule again. The Bears beat the Red Wolves 28-23 on Saturday night in Jonesboro, their first victory in the sporadic series since 1937.

“I’m not going to hide from it,” Mohajir said Monday. “It’s a good game. I believed it when we scheduled it and I believe it even though we got beat.”

Mohajir said he would like UCA to fill his team’s need for an FCS opponent in 2019. Teague said UCA’s schedule is full until 2021.

UCA, which competes in the FCS, will play FBS opponents Kansas State in 2017, Tulsa in 2018, Western Kentucky and Hawaii in 2019, Missouri in 2020 and 2021 is open. The Bears will play at Ole Miss in 2022 and Oklahoma State in 2023.

ASU will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff next year and Southeast Missouri State in 2018.
