Arkansas Open deadline today

Burns Park Golf Course in North Little Rock is accepting entries through today for this weekend's Arkansas Open.

Entry fee is $350 for professionals and $125 for amateurs.

Team Arkansas misses cut

Team Arkansas shot a 7-over 149 on Thursday to miss the cut at the USGA Men's State Team Tournament at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala.

Arkansas' top finisher, Beau Glover of North Little Rock, shot a 2-over 73 to finish at 7-over 149. Glover's round included three birdies and five bogeys. The team's other score came from Stephen Cox of Jonesboro who had five bogeys on his way to a 5-over 76 and a 16-over 158 for the two rounds. Little Rock's Trey Schaap's 14-over 85 was not included in the overall team totals.

Only the top 21 of the 52 teams advanced to today's final round. Arkansas was tied for 41st after Thursday's second round with a 23-over 307 total. Connecticut was leading the competition with a 3-under 281.

UAFS extends winning streak

Arkansas-Fort Smith extended its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) sweep of Dallas Baptist on Thursday at the Stubblefield Center in Forth Smith.

It's the 19th consecutive home victory for the Lady Lions (7-5, 3-0 Heartland Conference) and the 26th consecutive regular-season conference victory. Erin Black had 12 digs and Olivia Navato added 11, while Strealy Sizelove had 15 assists.

Harding sweeps SAU

Harding won its third Great American Conference match of the season Thursday with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) sweep of Southern Arkansas in Searcy.

The Lady Bisons (11-4, 3-2 GAC) used a 13-3 run on eight kills to win the first set, then used a 9-0 run and a 7-1 run to win the second set. They finished the match with an 8-0 run in the third set to break a 14-14 tie.

Sara Smith had 8 kills, 4 blocks and hit .615 to lead Harding, while Taylor Lake had 12 digs and Alex Nolan added 10. Serena LeDuff led Southern Arkansas (4-12, 1-4 GAC) with 11 kills.

Arkansas Tech earns road sweep

Hunter Eshnaur had 17 kills and Lauren Rodemers added 10 to lead Arkansas Tech to a 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-22) sweep over Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday in Monticello.

The Golden Suns (9-7, 4-1 GAC) started the match on a 5-1 run and later jumped out to an 18-6 lead. UAM (3-12, 1-4 GAC) then used an 8-1 run to tie the set at 24-24. The Cotton Blossoms took a 25-24 lead before Amanda Milnick tied the set with a kill and Rodemers added another kill to give Arkansas Tech the set.

Eshnaur had six of Arkansas Tech's 14 kills in the second set, and the Golden Suns had four errors to hit .323. Arkansas-Monticello took an early lead in the third set, but Arkansas Tech answered with a 12-2 run to take a five-point lead before winning the match.

Sarah Rosinke led Arkansas Tech with 19 assists and Milnick added 16. Madison Nagel led all players with 14 digs.

Henderson State wins in five sets

Henderson State outlasted Ouachita Baptist 3-2 (21-25, 25-13, 21-25, 21-25, 15-13) on Thursday in Arkadelphia for its first victory over the Tigers since 2010.

HSU jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set, but OBU used a 9-2 run to take the lead and the set. The Reddies bounced back with a 17-8 lead in the second set to tie the match. Henderson State led 7-3 in the third set, but Ouachita Baptist countered with a 6-1 run to take a 9-8 lead. Henderson State scored seven of the next nine points to take a 15-11 lead and held a 23-19 lead before OBU battled back to 24-23, but a service error for OBU on the final point gave HSU the third set. A 9-4 OBU run in the fourth set tied the match again before HSU took the match in the fifth set.

Courtney Bolf led the Reddies with a game-high 23 kills and 17 digs, while Sharon Tukuaoga had 21 kils.
