Police ID body in Fayetteville camp

FAYETTEVILLE -- Police on Tuesday released the name of a homeless woman found dead in a tent at a makeshift encampment on University of Arkansas, Fayetteville property.

Phyllis Thelma Thompson, 45, was found Sunday on undeveloped land owned by the university, said Capt. Gary Crain with university police.

Crain said police await a medical examiner's report on the cause of her death. But police found no evidence of trauma or foul play, he has said.

Thompson is the second person this year to be found dead at the UA-owned site, a thicketed area more than a mile south of the main campus.

In January, police said the badly burned body of 52-year-old John Widdoes Jr. was found. An investigation into his death remains open, with a medical examiner's report still pending, police have said.
