Imagine a world where no one suffers from Type 1 diabetes. Now imagine an event in which more than $600,000 is raised to help the Greater Arkansas chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation "turn Type One into Type None."

The organization's monetary goal was realized through its JRDF Imagine Gala, held April 8 in the Wally Allen Ballroom of the Statehouse Convention Center. Chaired by Kris and Dennis Cooper, the event honored philanthropists Kristie and Adam Mitchell with the foundation's 2017 Living & Giving Award.

The evening consisted of a VIP cocktail reception, dinner and a program led by master of ceremonies and former KARK news anchor Jancey Sheats. Board president Robby Vogel addressed guests and introduced the Coopers, who received a thank-you award for their service. Vogel also introduced the Mitchells, who were presented their award by Garner Hodge, the foundation's 2017 Children's Congress delegate.

Auction items included a Cache restaurant party; a Christmas trip to Orlando, Fla.; a Master's golf tournament trip for two to Augusta, Ga.; and a Taylor Swift-autographed guitar. The auction was enhanced by a donor who matched, dollar for dollar, the items sold.

In addition, the evening yielded a Fund a Cure appeal and the presentation of the young members of the JRDF Ambassadors program, who were also featured in a video. Music by disc jockey Lantz Smith closed out the party.
