Food Network is offering up a fresh reboot of the elite culinary competition Iron Chef America. The six-episode "event" Iron Chef Gauntlet begins with seven chefs competing for a chance to become an Iron Chef.

In the first five episodes, two competitors endure two rounds of battle cooking, starting with the Chairman's Challenge, where host Alton Brown sets them a specific challenge. He selects the most and least successful chef in this round.

The winner then selects a competitor to join the loser in the Secret Ingredient Challenge, where they cook three dishes. A rotating panel of judges will send the least successful chef home each week, while the winner goes back into battle.

In the finale, the last chef standing must run the Gauntlet: Three rapid-succession battles, each against one legendary Iron Chef: Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto or Michael Symon. Any finalist who receives more points than the Iron Chefs combined will join the ranks of Iron Chefs.

Iron Chef Gauntlet premieres at 8 p.m. today, preceded by the one-hour special, The Legend of Iron Chef. The special celebrates past Iron Chef moments. At 9, the series Iron Chef Eats premieres. Familiar faces from Iron Chef reveal their favorite food spots around the country.
