On Antiquities

Co-writer Graham Gordy and producer Gary Newton will discuss the made-in-Arkansas film Antiquities, 6 p.m. today at the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College's Center for Humanities and Arts Theater, main campus, 3000 W. Scenic Drive, North Little Rock.

Gordy and co-writer and fellow Arkansan Daniel Campbell, who also directed, filmed the comedy -- set in an antique mall and based on an award-winning short by the same name that Campbell made in 2010 -- in October and November on a 28-day schedule. North Little Rock's Galaxy Furniture served as the antique mall.

Brass at the movies

Presidio Brass -- Steve O'Connor and Miles McAllister, trumpet; Josh Bledsoe, trombone; Scott Sutherland, tuba; and Geoff Durbin, euphonium -- will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at the Owen Center Auditorium, Arkansas State University-Beebe, 910 Pecan St., Beebe. The program will focus on film music, including themes and segments from Star Wars, The Magnificent Seven, Fantasia, An American in Paris, West Side Story and a mash-up of music from The Incredibles, James Bond films and Mission: Impossible. UAM Jazz

The University of Arkansas at Monticello's Jazz Band One will perform at 7:30 p.m. today in the Fine Arts Center at UAM, off U.S. 425 in Monticello. The program will include "Mambo Caliente" by Arturo Sandoval, "To the Top" by Ben Patterson, "Doodle Oodle" by Billy Byers, "Hey Man" by Jack Peterson and "Who Can I Turn To" by Tom Kubis. Jazz in the Park

Ramona will be the "headline act" for Jazz in the Park, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the History Pavilion in Little Rock's Riverfront Park, just west of the First Security Amphitheater (enter from Ottenheimer Drive off of President Clinton Avenue). Admission is free; some seating is available in the amphitheater at the pavilion, otherwise, lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, but not coolers. Available for sale: Beer, wine, soft drinks and water, plus Jazz in the Park koozies (a portion of the proceeds benefits Art Porter Music Education Inc.'s scholarship fund).
